RAC 2000 Winter Contest Soapbox
G3PJT:
Not much from Northern Territories, very glad to get VY0 for first ever NU. AB0MV:
I had not intended to operate this contest but when I turned on the radio and
heard it on the air, it sounded like so much fun that I joined in.
Tremendous fun!
G3RSD:
Conditions were not good for a single band on 10 meters but the antenna was
still in position after ARRL10 so thought I would give it a try. G3ZRJ:
Very slow going, but
friendly contesting, with some excellent openings to VE6, VE7 in late afternoon.
I decided to go single band 28 MHz due family pressures. Thanks for a fun
afternoon, I look forward to 2001 session, when I hope to have a different QTH
and hopefully a beam. K0VX: Lots of great signals from everyone. AK6R:
Great contest –see everybody next year! K2QO: My best effort yet! There
were many more stations on than in the past and my QRP signal got out well. At
the 70th Q, my Omni 6 receiver quit and I finished the
contest with my Wilderness Sierra at 1W. It seemed to make no difference. K7RE:
This is always a favorite event of mine. I tried
SSB in addition to CW this time, and_was very surprised at my FB results
with my usual QRP entry. Thanks to the great ears of the operators and to the
RAC for hosting this very enjoyable event. LY2OX: Nice
conditions this year but it seems VE activity is lower, especially less RAC
stations ,at least audible here. Propagation to Ontario prevailed on all bands. OH2HMB:
This was my first RAC contest. It was exciting and fun!
RA3XO: Visited Toronto and Windsor in June and October 2000. So
would like to say Hello to nice Canada.
Will be glad to visit again. Be lucky & happy. VA3PRC: Highlights working
Nunavet friday evening and working all provinces on 20 mtrs snagging Yukon in
the last hour of the contest. VE2ZP: This wasa great contest!I met three
personal goals: beat the existing record, break 1000
QSOs and break 1 million points. VE3BUC:
Enjoyed working 6
hours of the contest from my car parked at waters edge near Clearwater, FL. Good
signals here on 10 and 15 but not much activity elsewhere owing to the limited
hours of operation. Thanks to everyone for
the
contacts and Happy New Year. VE3BW:
Great contest, had fun running a windom dipole and 100 watts. VE3DC: As
always, the R.A.C. Contests are one of our favourites. Thanks to everyone who
worked us, and the many QSL’s we have received already. A great contest again. VE3FUL: An enjoyable contest.
My score isn’t close to John, VE3JC who likely set a new QRP record
this year. However, my 13 hours of
operating at 5 watts into a wire antenna 25 feet above the ground demonstrates
that one can do well with low power levels.
I heard all multipliers, but wasn’t able to snag VE8 or VY0.
10 meters was wide open early Saturday morning, but no other contesters
were found until 1500 hrs (UTC). VE3HYK:
My first time contesting – had fun. VE3KZ: Started in at 13:30 on
Saturday morning after attending my daughter's wedding in Toronto Friday night.
After an hour in the driving snow, an immediate start into the contest after
midnight just wasn't in the books. Saturday morning was a little casual QRP, a
couple of hours off, no real competitive attempt. Sometime during the afternoon,
I noticed that the score was rising quite nicely and a couple of hours before
the end I decided to have a run at the QRP record and managed it with about 40
minutes to spare! Operating time was about 8 hours. It would appear that
something like 500K QRP is doable under the right conditions!
VE3SHL: RAC logging program worked reasonably well during contest
but I was unable to generate any output. Enjoyed
the contest.
VE3WIB:
Great Contest as
always nice to talk to people. Taking the time to wish the best. VE5SF:
Many thanks to all that QSY'd for me to help out with the multiplier
total, especially VY1JA, VE5CPU, VE4ZOO, VY2SS, VE1LV, VY2OX and others.
My total Canadian/DX QSO split in this years running essentially the same
as last winter. VE6VW: Had a good time this year, weird band conditions. VE6ZA:
Set up was rushed a
little bit and had somewhat of a slow start due to one station having faulty
connections. Our trouble shooter Neil should be commended for all his good work
with computer network installation. The team did extremely well and should
be congratulated for an excellent effort. Skills
are being refined with every new contest but most of all everyone enjoyed it and
we look forward to the next one. VE7IO:
Ken Clake, VE7UQ and I had a fun time with this contest. It is very nice to
say Happy New Year to all the hams we worked.
I wonder why we don't make this contest a little more user friendly to
our fellow hams south of the border as they really
enjoy working VE's. W1END: 10
meter band was fairly active. Had
good time. W3SE: Not a serious effort on my part. Had a lot of fun!! Thanks for a great contest.
Where are all you guys during NOV SS?
I worked more VE's in the ARRL RTTY, than in SS. W4YE: A really
fine contest again!. Thanks
to all those who participated. 73,
Buddy.
W6TK:
Didn't think I was going to get as involved as I did...it was
fun and conditions were pretty good. Ended
up being lots of fun. Had call from
local on Sat morning that SY2A was on 20 so had to take a break and chase Apollo
- finally got him for a new one! Thanks
for all the Q's and a fun day. 73's
till next time. WB3AAL: I
had a lot of fun working the contest. Wished I had more time to play in the
contest. Next Year!!! ZL1TM: Unfortunatelly Oceania was not the place
where VE's pointed the aerials to. Otherwise it was great. K3TW: Great
conditions. I enjoyed working the official RAC stations with just 5 watts and a
dipole antenna. VE2BIA: RAC operators were more active this year. VE5QRP:
Thank you very much for running the RAC Winter contest once again. The more
I participate, the more I enjoy these two 24 hour events. VE1JAX: Thank
you for another great CANADIAN contest! I am bit disappointed that the 80 meter
band (for me) ended at the VE3’s with no further contacts in Western Canada.
Overall the RAC winter contest in my view was operating time well spent. I
thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated all the contacts with our friends across
Canada and the world. VE3VHH: My 1st attempt at a contest. Had
a great time. Should have done this sooner. VE3BHZ: Another good Winter
Contest. Conditions were very good on all bands in Cambridge and we managed to
nearly double our 1999 score. Had trouble finding RAC stations, they seemed to
be flitting around answering CQ’s rather than sitting in one spot for a while
and calling CQ themselves. Heard several of them who appeared to be ‘searching
and pouncing’ and I wasn’t able to find them. Just a minor problem really.
Thanks to all the organizers and a Happy New Year and healthy 2001. VO1EGH: I
enjoyed the contest very much. I had fun looking forward to the next contest. VE3AJH:
Always a great contest! Look forward to the Canada Winter contest. VO1JLE:
I boo booed after looking forward to the contest for so long. But did enjoy
that which I managed get in on. Thank you again – Great Contest. VE2OWL: The
friendliest contest of all! VE3GNU: I operated the contest for about 14
¾ hours and never met a VY2 – too bad! Overall, another civilized contest
experience. Thanks to all. N2XT: This is a great contest and all fellow
amateurs from Canada deserve a round of thanks for their efforts in this
contest. VE3LAW: Great participation this year – good condx really
helped. Why was PEI closed? VE5BCS: I enjoyed the contest. Stayed on 10
meters it seemed to have long skip. Pointed east and worked GB’s point ant
west wk JA’s. Interesting. VY2LI: As usual another brief foray into the
contest. Apologies to the aborted CW ops. Need more practice before I’m up to
contest speed. VE7KD: Sleep and other commitments replaced on air time.
Enjoyed the contest anyway. VE4RP: Conditions were good except not many
Eastern heard in Winnipeg. This time ran 100 watts on all bands to my 4 element
quad antenna. VY0CW: My first contest. I had great fun and will do it
again in 2001. VE1JBL: Great contest as always. Got to get more RAC
stations on more often. VA3QSL: Good band conditions, worked more
stations this year but less multipliers. Where were all the VE4’s? VE1DFG: Lots
of fun and a great idea. OH3WD: I did enjoy the contest a lot, especially
the casual and friendly style of most Canadian operators. But as before, could
have worked more VE-stations, but could not find them. DF5ZX: I thank all
OM’s for the contest QSO’s. K3TW: Great conditions. I enjoyed working
the official RAC stations with just 5 watts and a dipole antenna. KJ5RC: My
first time to work this contest. I had fun and met a lot of nice guys. I enjoyed
it very much and looking forward to next year. N3KCJ/1: Not much time to
operate. Didn’t hear too many Canada stations. CU next one!
JA8LN: I hope to work in the contest full time next year. G4LQI:
Good condx but not a peep from the three Northern Territories. RV3LZ: It
is my 1st RAC contest. YU7SF: This was my 9th
Canada Winter contest and my 2,259 contest log. VE6BAC: Best I’ve done
in 4 contests. Looking forward to next one.
K4UK:
Another good contest. I missed most of Saturday morning due
to need for exercise. Again no North West Territory station heard. But I was
please to work both the Yukon Territory and Nunavut. K5ZTY: Didn’t hear
as many VE’s as in years past it seems. Maybe conditions weren’t as good as
they could have been. Thanks to all the ops for pulling out my weak signal.
Great time working all VE land and G3, ZL1, Dl1, and others. I always look
forward to the RAC
VE3NXB:
We need more RAC
bonus stations. DM3XI: Thanks for a nice contest. AB0V: Hello, I
am new at contests. I made a few contacts and I did not want to win an award but
I also did want to confirm these contacts for others. PA0IJM: I work only
one hour in the contest, because a heavy cold create a whispering voice instead
of a BIG CONTEST VOICE. VA3KOC: Lots of fun. Only my second contest. Hope
I did ok. Wonderful contacting other Canadians. W1MP: I’ve never worked
this contest before, it was a very pleasant experience, very polite contesters.
I’m looking forward to making a greater effort and spending more time on the
contest next year or maybe the summer contest. VE7RG: Nice conditions. VE2ZA:
My first RAC Contest. Not bad, considering my 45 ft dipole taped to the
ceiling! VA3CRA: As always the contest was loads of fun. Conditions
seemed to be alright through the entire contests. Tnx to all that pulled my 5
watts out of many pileups. VE1XA: Sure has a nice time passing out Cape
Breton Island. JK2VOC: Tkanks for the RAC Contest!
VE6BF: Tnx all those true reports on QRP! Les than 9 hours
available time. VE3ILE: Had fun – at our age hours of operation limited
– hope to see more Canadian participation in the future. NS2P: Thanks
for another great contest! 100 watts, Dipoles all bands.
VA7MM:
Some activity on 6 but most couldn’t be bothered. VE4ALN:
Where have all the RAC stations gone? XE1HKR: I’m happy to be in
the Canada Day Contest of 20th Century (last one) now I’ll wait for
the next in Jume.
