THE CANADIAN AMATEUR

TCA AUTHOR’S GUIDE, revised May 2008

THE CANADIAN AMATEUR welcomes articles, reviews, letters, features and photographs. Submissions should be of interest to radio amateurs. As a general guide TCA accepts material in the following categories:

Other Submitted material must be legible (typewritten, or computer-printed is strongly preferred). Articles must not have been previously published elsewhere, or submitted simultaneously to other magazines (to avoid copyright problems). Graphical illustrations, such as schematics, should be clear. They will usually be re-drawn before publication. Good quality photographs or digital images are always welcome but they must conform to certain specifications (see below).

Material may be submitted electronically as a word processing file attachment to an e-mail message, or sent by regular mail.

E-mail submissions should be sent to: tcamag@yahoo.ca

Regular mail submissions should be addressed to:

The Canadian Amateur
720 Belfast Road
Suite 217
Ottawa, ON
Canada   K1G 0Z5

Please include your name, call sign, phone number(s), addresses (mail or e-mail), and fax number, if any.

Submitted material will be reviewed to determine its suitability for publication.

The reviewers will assess manuscripts in terms of such factors as: pertinence to Amateur Radio; technical soundness; timeliness; degree of interest to readers of TCA; and freedom from needless controversy. The material should be written in a clear and acceptable manner; be of an appropriate length for TCA; and be in publishable form, not requiring major editing. It should treat the topic in sufficient detail. Material must be legal, prudent and in good taste.

The editor will confirm receipt of your material and will contact you about its disposition, or suggest possible changes. Some articles may be published in both English and French. Any translation required will be carried out by TCA’s translation services.

Your submitted material will be returned to you in the event that it is not accepted for publication.

In general, The Canadian Amateur uses the same technical specifications concerning word processor files, typewritten material, photographs, etc. as used by the American Radio Relay Leaque for its QST and QEX publications. It is recommended that you refer to the ARRL’s Author’s Guides at www.arrl.org/qst/aguide/ and  www.arrl.org/qex//#aguide before preparing your material.

TCA does not pay for published material. Your compensation will be the satisfaction of entertaining and educating other members of the Amateur Radio community.
