IARU R3 Press Release, September 5, 2017
The Directors of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 3 met in Tokyo on September 4 and 5 at the headquarters of the Japan Amateur Radio League (JARL).
Present were Directors Prof. Rhee, HL1AQQ, Peter Young, VK3MV, Don Wallace, ZL2TLL, Wisnu Widjaja, YB0AZ, Shizuo Endo, JE1MUI, Gopal Madhavan, VU2GMN and Secretary Ken Yamamoto, JA1CJP. IARU President Tim Ellam, VE6SH, also attended the meeting.
Work is already underway for addressing the agenda items of interest to Amateur Radio at the upcoming World Radio Conference (WRC-19). Directors Endo and Widjaja attended APG 19-2 at Bali, Indonesia in July 2017 and made presentations on behalf of the IARU.
The reformatting of the Band Plans for Region 3 has been done and a comparison made with Band Plans of other regions. This document is being forwarded to all Member Societies in Region 3 and also other Regions for their comments. It is expected that the final Band Plan document will be put up at the 2018 Region 3 Conference for adoption.
The reactivation of Amateur Radio in Fiji and the other Pacific islands in the region is still of interest.
Preparations for the Region 3 Conference scheduled to be held in Korea around September 2018 were reviewed.
In keeping with the focus of promoting Amateur Radio to young persons, the theme for the next Region 3 Conference has been chosen as “Engaging Youth for the future of Amateur Radio”.
The next meeting of the Directors will be held in Korea just before and after the triennial Region 3 Conference in 2018 in Korea.
