“The WRC-15 Sub-Working Group on Agenda Item 1.4” chaired by Dale Hughes VK1DSH has finished debate on and passed forward to the next level an agreement for a new secondary allocation to the Amateur Radio Service at 5 MHz.
The proposed allocation is for 15 kHz between 5351.5 and 5366.5 kHz with a maximum Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (eirp) of 15 Watts in ITU Regions 1 and 3. In parts of ITU Region 2 – specifically, countries of South America and Central America (not including Mexico) and specific Caribbean entities (not including entities and possessions of France, the Netherlands, the U.K. and the United States) – the power would not exceed 25 Watts eirp. Mexico, in a particular case, would have a maximum allowable power of 20 Watts. Canada and the United States would fall under the 15 Watt eirp limit.”
Canada played a critical role in these deliberations and we enjoyed the full attention of Christine Hsu of IC and the full support and confidence of the Canadian Delegation throughout.
