RAC Issues Call For Applications for RAC Scholarships and Grants – July 31, 2015
Every year we provide funds to worthy community programs and amateurs who seek education in the technologies related to radio.
RAC has provided grants to Shaftesbury School in Winnipeg. Teachers at that school earned their Amateur certification and ensured that students had their certification and call signs in order to track ballons by APRS to the edge of space. That school has also built a telebridge, Canada’s first, to permit not only students at Shaftesbury School but students across Canada and beyond to talk to the ISS. For more information please visit https://shsballoonproject.pbworks.com. To watch a video of a balloon flight from the balloon's perspective visit https://www.youtube.com/watch….
The scholarships recipients for 2014 were Ms. Sonja Andersson, VA7SAA, who is attending British Columbia Institute of Technology, Mr. Russell Walter, VA3WTR, who is attending Sheridan College, Institute of Technology, and Mr. Brad Lane, VE9BML, who is attending the University of New Brunswick.
Each of these Amateurs received a $500 academic scholarship to assist their further studies in their chosen fields.
We encourage members and affiliated clubs to advise Amateurs who are in a Science, Technical, Engineering or Science (STEM) field of studies to consider applying. Full details and an application are available at Scholarships Canada. Here is the link: www.scholarshipscanada.com. The RAC Board approves the scholarship and grants.
RAC would like to thank all the Amateurs from across Canada who have generously contributed to this fund administered by the Community Foundation of Ottawa (CFO) allowing us to give out these scholarships and grants. If you want to assist in this work please contact RAC HQ for more information on contributions to this or other funds administered by RAC or follow this link: www.scholarshipscanada.com
