Radio Amateurs of Canada Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

Radio Amateurs of Canada, Inc (hereinafter known as “RAC”) collects personally identifiable information about you when you voluntarily provide it.

When you apply for membership and subscription services, or provide your personal contact information for publication or product orders, every effort will be made to ensure that the information provided will be securely maintained.

Since data transmission over the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure, communication over the Internet is at your risk. However, once your information is received, every effort will be made to ensure its security on the RAC systems and on the RAC premises. For more information please see “Security” below.

Sharing of Information

We reserve the right to contact you regarding your account status, changes to your membership/subscriber agreement, for purposes of campaigning and balloting for RAC elections, and on any other matter that might affect service to you and our records about you.

In some cases, RAC will sell or provide your personally identifiable information to third parties who may wish to market products or services to RAC’s members. Such arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis and seek to balance the revenues available to RAC with the intrusion to you.

RAC may disclose your information in cases when there is reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) RAC’s rights or property, other RAC website users, other RAC members or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. RAC discloses information when it is felt in good faith that the law requires it.

Opting Out

Upon request, RAC allows any user to opt out of further promotional contacts at any time. Additionally, upon request, RAC will allow users to update or correct personal information previously submitted which is erroneous, to the extent that changing the data will not compromise privacy or security interests.

RAC will also use commercially reasonable efforts to functionally delete information from our database, upon request. However, it may be impossible to delete all of the information because of backups and records of deletions. It is your responsibility to make certain that RAC has your most current email address. Should you wish to opt out of any mailing from a third party affiliate, please contact the RAC Office Manager at RAC Headquarters.

Security

RAC strives to unobtrusively collect limited data to make your Internet and/or product use as efficient and satisfying as possible. In order to protect your credit card data, RAC uses PayPal as a payment processor. By using PayPal, RAC does not have access to your credit card information which is processed solely by PayPal. In the event that you choose to store your credit card information to facilitate membership renewals, the information is stored with PayPal and not RAC.

You should protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer by making sure that you completely logoff when you are finished with a transaction, especially when using a shared computer. Our employees and volunteers are obliged to respect the confidentiality of personal information. We ensure that personal information will not be disclosed to governments, government institutions or authorities except as required by law.

If you use the RAC website then you may have one or more cookies placed on your system. These are used for the purpose of simplifying data exchange and may be deleted from your system after your website visit.

The RAC email forwarding service that provides a “” email address is entirely automated. Incoming @rac.ca addresses are replaced by the “real” email address stored in a computer lookup table following your account activation. At no time is RAC aware of the content of any forwarded email. Your email forwarding service can be updated or suspended at any time upon request, using the Request or Change RAC email alias form.

The Call Sign Database originates with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (formerly Industry Canada) and is posted on the RAC website as a service to Canadian Amateurs. All questions related to the privacy of those listings should be addressed to the Amateur Radio Service Centre.

RAC reserves the right to change these policies at any time. By accessing and using our website, you agree to be bound by the RAC Privacy Policy and terms of use. If you do not agree with this policy, you may discontinue the use of the website. Your continued use of the RAC website following the posting of any changes to these terms shall indicate acceptance of any such changes. This statement and the policies outlined herein are not intended to and do not create any contractual or other legal rights in or on behalf of any party.
