Hamstudy Basic and Hamstudy Advanced were created by Frank VanderZande VE7AV of Prince George, British Columbia. In 2021, Frank transferred his ownership of Hamstudy to Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) (https://www.rac.ca/), the national organization for Canada’s 75,000 qualified Radio Amateurs.

Hamstudy Basic 2026 is the fifth edition of this study guide, and is published by Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC). This manual is based on self-study courses which have been offered at www.hamstudy.com for more than 20 years.
Hamstudy Basic 2026 has been designed to get you started in Amateur Radio with 20 to 35 hours of study. You will need to become familiar with 100 topics on which the examination is based. Your multiple choice examination will consist of one question from each of 100 topics. These 100 topics include regulations, operating procedures, radio electronics, antennas, radio wave propagation and electrical safety. The complete, updated 2025 Basic Question Bank is included in this edition.

How to obtain a Hamstudy subscription:
1) Choose your subscription length: 30 or 90 days.
2) Use the PayPal buttons in the registration form to make an online payment to Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC).
3) For alternate methods of payment, RAC accepts Interac e-Transfers. Please arrange with the RAC Office Manager by sending an email to Please do not submit the form below if you intend to pay via e-Transfer. Instead please wait for instructions from the manager.
4) If payment has been completed through PayPal registration, you should receive notification via email immediately. If not received, please send an email to or leave a phone message with your phone number at 613-244-4367 or 877-273-8304. Phone messages will be monitored from 10 am to 4 pm ET, Monday through Friday (except statutory holidays).
5) Subscription information will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purpose of providing Hamstudy subscriptions.
6) Once you have subscribed, go to the Hamstudy.com site to create your access credentials.
